The Symbian operating system, derived from Psion's EPOC, was used by several mobile makers from the late 1990s to the late 2000s. It was the leading smartphone platform in 2010, but its market share quickly collapsed when Nokia announced their migration to Windows Phone instead of their brand-new, much-expected MeeGo system, and most other makers were ready to jump ship to Android by then.
