Overview of recommended mods for New Vegas. For first time players, click here.
Make sure your game is fully patched to 18.104.22.1685
Usually mods are simply extracted to your Data\ directory (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout New Vegas\Data).
After that the plugin files (*.esp, *.esm) have to be activated.
The recommended way to install is to use Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM) . However the updater doesn't work since the Nexus site redesign, so ignore when it ask you to connect. Other than that it works fine.
Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) can be used if you're having trouble keeping track of which mod needs updating. Which you shouldn't since most of these mods stop being updated for about a year now.
Mod Organizer is a more complex and a more reliable solution which also features Nexus integration.
You can only install one of these managers, otherwise it will conflict with each other.
New Vegas Script Extender (NVSE) is required for most mods to work.
After installation, use BOSS to setup the load order. It is important to setup the load order correctly to make them work properly. It will recognize most mods listed here, and list them correctly in order. If it doesn't, it's usually safe to leave that mod at the bottom it was placed at.
Some mods may install differently or require additional mods to work. Always check the Readme/Mod description before installing a mod.
