Commodore has a long and interesting story, but their foray into the games market came during their biggest boom (right before their biggest downfall and eventual bankruptcy). The Commodore 64 was released to some acclaim in 1982. Though primarily marketed for it's application in the world of art and business, many highly regarded, and played, games were released for it, which led to the company releasing a 'consolized', cartridge based version in 1990. Before that time, however, Commodore also released the Amiga, which again, was touted for it's capabilities to professionals (with Disney actually backing it up for a time, most notably in a televised demonstration), but again, also had a strong lineup of video games, which are fondly remembered even to this day.
